When the world watched in disbelief as flames consumed Notre-Dame de Paris on April 15, 2019, it was more than just a fire. It felt like we were losing a piece of history, a part of our collective soul. But what happened next was a stunning reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the power of global unity.
Donations flooded in from over 150 countries. Craftsmen, architects, and experts from around the world offered their skills and expertise. The challenge was massive, but so was the determination. People who had never met, who didn’t share a language or a culture, came together with one mission: to restore something beautiful and iconic that seemed lost forever.
And now, after just five years, Notre-Dame re-opened its doors this week with global leaders coming together to celebrate. It was very moving to see these leaders arrive for the purpose of celebrating an iconic building. I loved when they took the time to thank the firemen and women who put out the flames during the fire five years ago. That isn’t just the story of a cathedral rising from the ashes — it’s a story about us. We all face our own fires. We all experience moments when it feels like everything we’ve built is crumbling. But like Notre-Dame, we have the power to rebuild. Resilience is not about avoiding the flames; it’s about having the courage to rise through them. And just like this incredible global effort, sometimes we need others to step in and help. Resilience is never a solo journey. When we allow others to support us, when we collaborate and lean into the strength of community, we achieve things we never thought possible.
So, this week, I challenge you to think of your own “Notre-Dame moment.” What challenge are you facing that seems overwhelming? Who can you ask for help, and how can you be part of someone else’s restoration story? Remember: we are stronger together. Stay front-row, stay resilient, and never lose hope. Just like Notre-Dame, your best chapters are still being written.
