Do you cringe when it comes to networking? It’s so important to grow your network but it can be intimidating at times. It doesn’t have to be! Networking doesn’t have to be uncomfortable with attending an event with business cards in hand and an elevator speech prepared. Last night I went to a unique dinner for the purpose of networking. This one idea expanded my network, and it was SO much fun!
The idea was born out of a luncheon hosted by NPR in Las Vegas where they were awarding the top restaurants in Las Vegas. Two of my friends at that luncheon suggested they visit all these restaurants and the “Dinner for 8” was born. They put together a list of women that they knew and every month they send out an invite for dinner at one of the award-winning restaurants in Las Vegas. The first 8 people who RSVP “yes” get to go.
I went for the first time last night and met some extraordinary women! I couldn’t believe how unique and special each of these women were. As each person went around the table to introduce themselves, one person started by saying ‘I’m not as interesting as the rest but…’ To be honest, I had that feeling too! But we were wrong. Everyone has a unique story and a unique experience. Please know that YOU are fascinating! I highly recommend this monthly practice of a dinner for 8 in your city.
Today’s message is to expand your network in a creative fun way and try not to compare yourself to others. Know that YOU are special in your own way.
