We’ve all heard the phrase, “Ask and you shall receive.” But when was the last time you really examined what you’re asking for? Maybe it’s time to revisit those asks because, just maybe, you’re not dreaming big enough. Perhaps you’re not asking for what you truly want.
Are You Leaving Opportunities on the Table?
Think about it: asking is entirely your choice. But here’s the catch—you might be leaving something incredible on the table simply because you didn’t ask. Let me share a story to illustrate this. Two emerging leaders in the restaurant industry entered an 18-month leadership program. Both started as equals, went through the same training, and, upon completion, were given their own restaurants to manage. Yet, one of them ended up earning significantly more than the other. Why? Because after the program, one of them had the courage to ask for a raise. He reasoned with his boss, saying, “You’ve invested 18 months of training in me. I’m now a more valuable asset to the organization. I deserve a raise.” And he got it. The other participant, equally capable and equally trained, didn’t make the same request. She was frustrated, but not because her colleague was paid more—it was because she realized she hadn’t asked.
What Are You Not Asking For?
This story challenges us to reflect: what are you not asking for? Whether it’s more responsibility, a promotion, a raise, or even less responsibility to create balance in your life, the courage to ask could open doors you didn’t even realize were there. It’s entirely up to you, but remember: asking is the first step toward receiving.
Practicing What I Preach
I’ve been sharing motivational messages for years, including my weekly Front-Row Friday videos. Yet, I realized something recently—I don’t often ask for what I need. So today, I’m practicing what I preach. Here’s my ask: I’m booking speaking engagements for 2025 and beyond. If you know a meeting or event planner who’s searching for an engaging, motivational speaker, please send them my way. Feel free to share my name, my website (MarilynSherman.com), and help connect me with those who could benefit from my message of hope and inspiration.
Your Front-Row Challenge
As we step into this year, I challenge you to have the courage to ask for what you truly want. Whether it’s big or small, personal or professional, asking is a powerful act of self-belief. Ask, and you just might receive something greater than you ever imagined. Here’s to your Front-Row success! Let’s make it a year of bold asks and even bolder achievements. See you next Front-Row Friday!
Your Head Usher.
