Whose comfort zone are you in? That’s not just the title of my first book; it’s a challenge to see if you are following the path to your dreams, to your front row. Or are you stuck in your comfort zone, otherwise known as general admission?
Today, I want to share the story of someone who didn’t just step out of her comfort zone—she completely transformed her life. Rhannon McMillan moved from the US to Paris, switched careers, and embraced a whole new culture.
Imagine moving to a new country and starting a new career. It’s daunting, right? This amazing woman started her business in Paris without any clients or prior experience. Talk about pushing through fear! But guess what? She did it, and it significantly boosted her confidence.
When you work through fear and come out on the other side, it’s incredibly satisfying. The sense of accomplishment from overcoming challenges is like a dopamine rush—you start seeking the next challenge. It’s all about continuously pushing yourself and learning from each experience.
Learning new skills can be humbling. Take me, for instance. I’m learning French, and it’s challenging because it’s a whole new skillset. But each small victory, attempting to speak French to French people, builds my confidence. I’m not fluent yet, far from it. But we must accept that perfection isn’t necessary. Progress is what counts.
In my conversation with my friend Rhannon, there were three takeaways to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone and have your dreams come true.
Say Yes More Often: If an opportunity feels 60% right, go for it. You can figure out the rest as you go. Don’t wait until you are 100% ready because that opportunity will pass by, and you may never hit that milestone.
Focus on Progress: Recognize where you are today and strive to be better tomorrow. Every small effort adds up. Celebrate your wins, put them in a special place (I call it a Win-List), and whenever you start to fear your next step, pull out your win-list and remind yourself how far you’ve come.
Stay True to Yourself: Make sure your actions are aligned with who you are and where you want to be. Trust your instincts and don’t let others’ doubts hold you back. If you listen to the nay-sayers of the world who tell you that your dreams are unrealistic, or they question your ability, then you are living in their comfort zone and not yours.
So, on this Front-Row Friday, trust your instincts, stretch your comfort zone, and keep pushing forward because your dreams are right over on the other side! Remember, it’s better to be done than perfect. Embrace change, face your fears, and continuously strive for the front row. Keep living life to the fullest and stay inspired!
See you in the ‘premier rang’!
