Did you know that optimistic people live longer than pessimistic people? According to a study I read recently, optimistic people are 16% less likely to die a pre-mature death than pessimistic people! Given that fun statistic, today’s Front-Row Friday gives you five easy ways to be more optimistic.
- Focus on the positive – You cannot control everything that happens to you, but you can control how you respond. We make choices every single day, why not make it a habit to focus on positive outcomes?
- Maintain Hope – There is always hope that things can and will get better. Instead of looking at the negative and being pessimistic about outcomes, think of the best possible outcome and hope for that. Keep your hope constant and it will become a habit.
- Set goals – As a lifelong goal-setter, I know how exciting it is to realize a goal. So when you set goals, it gives you something to look forward to!
- Embrace Change – The most successful people are adaptable to change. Change doesn’t have to equate loss. If you have ever attended my ‘Managing Change with a Positive Outlook’ workshop, you know that many people when faced with change don’t embrace it with positive possibility. It’s human nature. Look at ways to embrace change around you.
- Practice Resilience – If you want to be inspired to stay optimistic, read stories of people who have overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. They are the most resilient people on earth. Bounce back from whatever roadblock you stumble upon and be hopeful that you will be stronger on the other side.
Have an amazing optimistic day and I’ll see YOU in the front-row!
