Why are these students hugging their security guard? It’s because of all the love she showed them and on graduation day, they wanted to show it back to her.
In this day and age of digital marketing and an emphasis on an organization’s online brand, people often set a goal to have a video to go viral. But the best viral videos are the organic moments of goodness caught on tape. That moment that you couldn’t plan if you tried. That is the case of a video of Ms. Val, a security guard on the extraordinary campus of High Point University in North Carolina. Ms. Val, as she is affectionately called by the students, is one of those warm individuals who make you feel seen, heard, and that you make a difference. Her job is an on-campus security guard, but she is so much more. You could tell by the video that she loves each of those students she sees on campus. In fact, she even said; “It’s love at first sight!”
Here is the interview of Ms. Val including the video that went viral from HPU’s recent graduation. Imagine these graduating seniors lining up to hug on Ms. Val and show her some love. https://fb.watch/kLuiJCwrVd/?mibextid=l2pjGR
What can we learn? Try being a bit more like Ms. Val. And, just maybe, acts of kindness videos can continue to go viral.
Here are three things that we can all do:
- Make people feel heard
- Make people feel seen
- Make people know that they matter, and that they are enough.
Keep shining your light!
