If you wait until you are perfect before you write your first book, or offer a service, or ask for a promotion, you’ll never do it. In this front-row Friday video, I explain how you don’t have to wait until your perfect to put yourself out there. In fact, imperfection is quite appealing, so why not embrace it?
I use the example of writing my first book that took me 15 years to write, until I got this life changing advice. Fellow Hall of Fame speaker Larry Winget suggested to me; “Finish your darn book, no one is going to read it anyway.” What he meant by that is that people will want to take a piece of me home after a keynote speech and just having that book on their shelf reminds them of the magic of the day. That helped me let go of needing it to be a perfect book and just finish it. I did and I am glad I did. Year’s later, I now have 4 books and one more on the way. But, this advice is sound even if you want to put yourself out there for a special project or deliver a sales presentation. Don’t wait until you’re perfect. Embrace your imperfection and see how people respond. Let me know how it goes!
