Do you get nervous when you’re about to deliver a speech or presentation of an idea, service or product? You’re not alone. Speaking in front of an audience is the number one fear people have. But, you don’t have to be as nervous after learning this speaking hack. Since 1993, I’ve spent my full time career as a professional speaker and so many people have asked me about nerves, stage fright, and what to do to be calm before presenting. I always give this piece of advice that was given to me by my mentor early on in my speaking. I was used to audiences of 75-80 people tops. Then, one day, I saw the roster and found out there would be over 200 more people than I was used to! He asked me two questions which are the two questions everyone should answer before they give a speech.
1. Do you believe in your message? Or do you believe in your product, service, or idea?
2. Do you believe that what you are going to present will be of value to the group that you will be delivering it to?
If you answered yes to both of those, then the rest is all ego. Stop worrying about how you will sound, or how you will look. Focus on the real goal which is to add value to others.
If you answered no to either one, then you have work to do!
