How are you? If you are like the rest of the world, you are dealing with some sort of change. The change you are experiencing could be how you make, distribute, deliver or manage your product or service. Please know that the success of adapting and adopting new protocols will depend on the mindset of all involved. You can choose to be either a victim, a vacationer or volunteer. A victim doesn’t feel like they have a voice so they are hesitant to pending changes. They become self-reflective in how the change will affect them personally. A vacationer is someone who is checked out and waits for others to do all the heavy lifting. As you can imagine, both mindsets result in language and behavior that will be detrimental to the change. The third and most important mindset is to be a volunteer. This is someone with an attitude that changes everything where change is concerned! They are resourceful. That is the key. They realize that they are not the only one who is going through change, so they are engaged in finding out best practices from other people. They have a positive, can-do mindset, and they are possibility thinkers instead of people with limited beliefs. With a volunteer mindset, they also are more engaged than a victim or volunteer, and offers suggestions or solutions. So, on this front-row Friday, realize that you don’t have to be a victim to the change, and I never suggest stepping back and quietly letting others do the heavy lifting. Be a volunteer by having a positive mindset and realize that change doesn’t have to equate loss.
I’m so grateful for my clients who are hiring me to facilitate these workshops on change. I love the collective ‘ah-ha’ moment where people realize that they too have defaulted to victim so very easily in the past.
